Looking at Crane NXT, Co.'s (NYSE:CXT ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net sellers. That is, there were more number of shares sold by insiders than there were purchased.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Crane NXT

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Director, Max Mitchell, for US$1.9m worth of shares, at about US$50.16 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$60.28, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. This single sale was just 10% of Max Mitchell's stake. Max Mitchell was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership Of Crane NXT

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Crane NXT insiders own 0.9% of the company, worth about US$32m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Crane NXT Insiders?

It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Crane NXT shares in the last quarter. Still, the insider transactions at Crane NXT in the last 12 months are not very heartening. The modest level of insider ownership is, at least, some comfort. In addition to knowing about insider transactions going on, it's beneficial to identify the risks facing Crane NXT.
