Investors Still Aren't Entirely Convinced By Solareast Holdings Co., Ltd.'s (SHSE:603366) Earnings Despite 26% Price Jump

Solareast Holdingsの収益が26%上昇したにも関わらず、投資家はまだ完全に納得していない

Solareast Holdings Co., Ltd. (SHSE:603366) shareholders are no doubt pleased to see that the share price has bounced 26% in the last month, although it is still struggling to make up recently lost ground. Not all shareholders will be feeling jubilant, since the share price is still down a very disappointing 11% in the last twelve months.

Even after such a large jump in price, Solareast Holdings may still be sending very bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-earnings (or "P/E") ratio of 10.4x, since almost half of all companies in China have P/E ratios greater than 32x and even P/E's higher than 58x are not unusual. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the highly reduced P/E.

Recent times have been quite advantageous for Solareast Holdings as its earnings have been rising very briskly. It might be that many expect the strong earnings performance to degrade substantially, which has repressed the P/E. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

How Is Solareast Holdings' Growth Trending?

Solareast Holdings' P/E ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver very poor growth or even falling earnings, and importantly, perform much worse than the market.

If we review the last year of earnings growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 206%. Pleasingly, EPS has also lifted 282% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the last 12 months of growth. So we can start by confirming that the company has done a great job of growing earnings over that time.

This is in contrast to the rest of the market, which is expected to grow by 40% over the next year, materially lower than the company's recent medium-term annualised growth rates.

In light of this, it's peculiar that Solareast Holdings' P/E sits below the majority of other companies. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance has exceeded its limits and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.

The Bottom Line On Solareast Holdings' P/E

Solareast Holdings' recent share price jump still sees its P/E sitting firmly flat on the ground. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-earnings ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.

Our examination of Solareast Holdings revealed its three-year earnings trends aren't contributing to its P/E anywhere near as much as we would have predicted, given they look better than current market expectations. When we see strong earnings with faster-than-market growth, we assume potential risks are what might be placing significant pressure on the P/E ratio. At least price risks look to be very low if recent medium-term earnings trends continue, but investors seem to think future earnings could see a lot of volatility.

Having said that, be aware Solareast Holdings is showing 1 warning sign in our investment analysis, you should know about.
