Greattown Holdings Ltd. (SHSE:600094) Held Back By Insufficient Growth Even After Shares Climb 29%

東成 Holdings Ltd.(SHSE:600094)は、株価が29%上昇しても成長不足によって後退している

Simply Wall St ·  04/08 18:17

The Greattown Holdings Ltd. (SHSE:600094) share price has done very well over the last month, posting an excellent gain of 29%. Looking further back, the 19% rise over the last twelve months isn't too bad notwithstanding the strength over the last 30 days.

Even after such a large jump in price, Greattown Holdings may still be sending bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.6x, since almost half of all companies in the Real Estate industry in China have P/S ratios greater than 1.7x and even P/S higher than 4x are not unusual. However, the P/S might be low for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

How Greattown Holdings Has Been Performing

Greattown Holdings certainly has been doing a great job lately as it's been growing its revenue at a really rapid pace. Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to dwindle, which has kept the P/S suppressed. Those who are bullish on Greattown Holdings will be hoping that this isn't the case, so that they can pick up the stock at a lower valuation.

How Is Greattown Holdings' Revenue Growth Trending?

Greattown Holdings' P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the industry.

If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 135%. Still, revenue has fallen 7.6% in total from three years ago, which is quite disappointing. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been undesirable for the company.

In contrast to the company, the rest of the industry is expected to grow by 7.2% over the next year, which really puts the company's recent medium-term revenue decline into perspective.

In light of this, it's understandable that Greattown Holdings' P/S would sit below the majority of other companies. Nonetheless, there's no guarantee the P/S has reached a floor yet with revenue going in reverse. There's potential for the P/S to fall to even lower levels if the company doesn't improve its top-line growth.

The Final Word

Greattown Holdings' stock price has surged recently, but its but its P/S still remains modest. While the price-to-sales ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of revenue expectations.

It's no surprise that Greattown Holdings maintains its low P/S off the back of its sliding revenue over the medium-term. At this stage investors feel the potential for an improvement in revenue isn't great enough to justify a higher P/S ratio. If recent medium-term revenue trends continue, it's hard to see the share price moving strongly in either direction in the near future under these circumstances.
