7.1% Earnings Growth Over 1 Year Has Not Materialized Into Gains for Ceepower (SZSE:300062) Shareholders Over That Period

過去1年間における7.1%の利益成長は、Ceepower(SZSE: 300062)の株主にとっては利益に結びついていない。

The simplest way to benefit from a rising market is to buy an index fund. While individual stocks can be big winners, plenty more fail to generate satisfactory returns. Unfortunately the Ceepower Co., Ltd. (SZSE:300062) share price slid 34% over twelve months. That contrasts poorly with the market decline of 20%. Longer term shareholders haven't suffered as badly, since the stock is down a comparatively less painful 22% in three years. Shareholders have had an even rougher run lately, with the share price down 33% in the last 90 days.

After losing 21% this past week, it's worth investigating the company's fundamentals to see what we can infer from past performance.

While the efficient markets hypothesis continues to be taught by some, it has been proven that markets are over-reactive dynamic systems, and investors are not always rational. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.

Even though the Ceepower share price is down over the year, its EPS actually improved. It could be that the share price was previously over-hyped.

It's surprising to see the share price fall so much, despite the improved EPS. So it's easy to justify a look at some other metrics.

Given the yield is quite low, at 0.2%, we doubt the dividend can shed much light on the share price. Ceepower managed to grow revenue over the last year, which is usually a real positive. Since the fundamental metrics don't readily explain the share price drop, there might be an opportunity if the market has overreacted.

It's probably worth noting that the CEO is paid less than the median at similar sized companies. It's always worth keeping an eye on CEO pay, but a more important question is whether the company will grow earnings throughout the years. A Different Perspective

While the broader market lost about 20% in the twelve months, Ceepower shareholders did even worse, losing 33% (even including dividends). However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there's a good opportunity. Regrettably, last year's performance caps off a bad run, with the shareholders facing a total loss of 0.8% per year over five years. Generally speaking long term share price weakness can be a bad sign, though contrarian investors might want to research the stock in hope of a turnaround. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Ceepower better, we need to consider many other factors.
