Ivys Adsorption and Ivys Energy Solutions are proud suppliers for the H2@Scale project in Texas. This project, supported by the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office, is a pioneering small-scale hydrogen hub that plays a crucial role in advancing hydrogen's position as a clean energy source, a cause we are deeply committed to.

About the "Demonstration and Framework for H2@Scale in Texas and Beyond" project

The facility, located at the University of Texas J.J. Pickle Research Campus in Austin, Texas, will produce zero-carbon hydrogen through water electrolysis, using solar and wind energy, and steam methane reformation of renewable natural gas from a Texas landfill. This project is a collaboration between GTI Energy and its subsidiary Frontier Energy, the UT Center for Electromechanics, and nearly two dozen industry stakeholders. It uses Ivys Energy and Ivys Adsorption equipment.

The hydrogen produced will be used to power a stationary fuel cell, providing clean and reliable power for the Texas Advanced Computing Center, and to supply zero-emission fuel for a fleet of Toyota Mirai fuel cell electric vehicles. This marks the first time that multiple renewable hydrogen supplies and multiple end uses have been networked at a single location to demonstrate a scalable and economical hydrogen ecosystem that can bring significant environmental benefits and clean energy jobs to Texas.

Ivys Adsorption and Ivys Energy have leveraged their unparalleled position and deep expertise in hydrogen purification and refueling systems to offer a range of comprehensive solutions. This project underscores our unwavering commitment to delivering innovative and effective solutions for hydrogen projects.

Our solution for the H2@Scale project was a hydrogen purification Pressure Swing Adsorption system designed to deliver high-purity hydrogen derived from renewable natural gas. . This equipment, from Ivys Adsorption, was originally purchased through Xebec, whose assets were acquired by Ivys.

The hydrogen refueling units, a key component of our offerings, manage all aspects of compression, storage, and dispensing for vehicle fueling. The system integration and installation ensure compatibility with hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, showcasing our expertise in the field.

In a 2019 press release about the DOE funding of these projects, the then-U.S. Secretary of Energy noted that:

The H2@Scale concept is a critical piece of the country's comprehensive energy strategy and an enabler of multiple industries in our economy. As an energy carrier, hydrogen has the potential to unite our nation's domestic energy resources. These selections support DOE's mission and advances our commitment to enable economic growth and energy security through the development of more affordable hydrogen technologies.

Earlier this year, the report titled "A Framework for Hydrogen in Texas: Demonstration and Framework for H2@Scale in Texas and Beyond " outlined several important next steps Texas stakeholders could take to foster the development of a clean hydrogen economy. These included:

  • Roll out heavy-duty fuel cell trucks and fueling stations.
  • Pursue hydrogen blending for power plant decarbonization.
  • Implement hydrogen production via natural gas reforming combined with carbon capture and sequestration.
  • Refresh policy incentives and bridge gaps.
  • Ivys Energy and Ivys Adsorption are fully committed to supporting projects in Texas by providing hydrogen upgrading and purification solutions and refueling systems in accordance with the report's recommendations.
