Strong Week for Holitech Technology (SZSE:002217) Shareholders Doesn't Alleviate Pain of Five-year Loss

Holitech Technology(SZSE:002217)の株主にとって強い週は、5年間の損失の痛みを和らげなかった。

It's nice to see the Holitech Technology Co., Ltd. (SZSE:002217) share price up 10% in a week. But will that heal all the wounds inflicted over 5 years of declines? Unlikely. In fact, the share price has tumbled down a mountain to land 76% lower after that period. The recent bounce might mean the long decline is over, but we are not confident. The important question is if the business itself justifies a higher share price in the long term.

On a more encouraging note the company has added CN¥405m to its market cap in just the last 7 days, so let's see if we can determine what's driven the five-year loss for shareholders.

Because Holitech Technology made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually desire strong revenue growth. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one would hope for good top-line growth to make up for the lack of earnings.

Over half a decade Holitech Technology reduced its trailing twelve month revenue by 18% for each year. That's definitely a weaker result than most pre-profit companies report. So it's not altogether surprising to see the share price down 12% per year in the same time period. We don't think this is a particularly promising picture. Of course, the poor performance could mean the market has been too severe selling down. That can happen.

The graphic below depicts how earnings and revenue have changed over time (unveil the exact values by clicking on the image).

We're pleased to report that the CEO is remunerated more modestly than most CEOs at similarly capitalized companies. But while CEO remuneration is always worth checking, the really important question is whether the company can grow earnings going forward. It might be well worthwhile taking a look at our free report on Holitech Technology's earnings, revenue and cash flow.

A Different Perspective

We regret to report that Holitech Technology shareholders are down 62% for the year. Unfortunately, that's worse than the broader market decline of 14%. However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there's a good opportunity. Unfortunately, last year's performance may indicate unresolved challenges, given that it was worse than the annualised loss of 12% over the last half decade. Generally speaking long term share price weakness can be a bad sign, though contrarian investors might want to research the stock in hope of a turnaround. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Holitech Technology better, we need to consider many other factors. To that end, you should be aware of the 3 warning signs we've spotted with Holitech Technology .
