Have UniFirst Insiders Been Selling Stock?

ユニファーストの関係者は株を売っていますか?

We wouldn't blame UniFirst Corporation (NYSE:UNF) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Cecelia Levenstein, a company insider, recently netted about US$1.5m selling shares at an average price of US$153. That's a big disposal, and it decreased their holding size by 17%, which is notable but not too bad.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At UniFirst

Notably, that recent sale by insider Cecelia Levenstein was not the only time they sold UniFirst shares this year. They previously made an even bigger sale of -US$4.0m worth of shares at a price of US$159 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$176, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. We note that the biggest single sale was only 25% of Cecelia Levenstein's holding.

In the last year UniFirst insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. Insider Ownership

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. UniFirst insiders own 10% of the company, currently worth about US$291m based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
