Selangor had projected a lowe growth rate of 5.2 percent this year compared to last year but remains higher compared to the country's estimation of 4-5%, this was shared by Menteri Besar Dato' Amirudin Shari when tabling the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) mid-term review today.
Amirudin said the figure, while slightly lower than the 5.4 per cent gross domestic product (GDP) growth recorded by the state last year, takes into consideration the expected slowdown in the global economy.
The State MB also thumped his chest, as said Selangor contributed 25.9 per cent in 2023, compared with 25.5 per cent in 2022 and 24.8 per cent in 2021 and that in 2023, the State's economic growth of 5.4 per cent was the highest among all states in the country.
On Tuesday, DOSM released its GDP by State 2023 report, which revealed Selangor was one of only four states with growth exceeding the national rate of 3.6 per cent, the other three being Pahang (5.2 per cent), Johor (4.1 per cent) and Kuala Lumpur (3.7 per cent).
