Second Quarter GDP Growth Of 5.8% Was Beyond Expectations

Malaysia's projected economic growth of at 5.8 per cent in the second quarter of 2024 will provide the country with opportunities to emerge stronger, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said in Ekonomi MADANI, the government promises opportunities for employment, training, and better technology transfer towards digitalization and energy transition.

"Malaysia has broken through the economic challenges by achieving a remarkable growth of 5.8 percent in the current quarter, exceeding ordinary expectations and forecasts put forward by all parties."

"I am confident that with our cooperation and focus on economic development, we will succeed," said Anwar in a video message on his Facebook page today.

Yesterday, the Malaysian Department of Statistics (DOSM) projected that Malaysia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would grow by 5.8 percent in the second quarter of 2024, up from 4.2 percent in the previous quarter and marking the highest growth since the second quarter of 2022 at 7.4 percent.

The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to the citizens, workers, professionals, and investors who continue to trust the direction of Ekonomi MADANI.

"With humility, I extend my heartfelt thanks to the people, immense appreciation to the workforce whether in the government or private sector, profound gratitude to the professionals, and thanks to the investors who continue to believe in the direction of Ekonomi MADANI," he said.

According to the DOSM website, the official announcement of the GDP for the second quarter of 2024 will be made on August 16, 2024.
