メディワウンド(NASDAQ:MDWD)の株式が43%上昇しましたが、P / Sはまだ合理的に見えます。

MediWound Ltd. (NASDAQ:MDWD) shares have had a really impressive month, gaining 43% after a shaky period beforehand. The last month tops off a massive increase of 101% in the last year.

Following the firm bounce in price, MediWound may be sending strong sell signals at present with a price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 9x, when you consider almost half of the companies in the Pharmaceuticals industry in the United States have P/S ratios under 3x and even P/S lower than 0.8x aren't out of the ordinary. However, the P/S might be quite high for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

How Has MediWound Performed Recently?

While the industry has experienced revenue growth lately, MediWound's revenue has gone into reverse gear, which is not great. It might be that many expect the dour revenue performance to recover substantially, which has kept the P/S from collapsing. If not, then existing shareholders may be extremely nervous about the viability of the share price.

Keen to find out how analysts think MediWound's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The High P/S Ratio?

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as steep as MediWound's is when the company's growth is on track to outshine the industry decidedly.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered a frustrating 23% decrease to the company's top line. The last three years don't look nice either as the company has shrunk revenue by 14% in aggregate. So unfortunately, we have to acknowledge that the company has not done a great job of growing revenue over that time.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the four analysts covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 41% per year over the next three years. With the industry only predicted to deliver 20% each year, the company is positioned for a stronger revenue result.

In light of this, it's understandable that MediWound's P/S sits above the majority of other companies. Apparently shareholders aren't keen to offload something that is potentially eyeing a more prosperous future.

The Final Word

Shares in MediWound have seen a strong upwards swing lately, which has really helped boost its P/S figure. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-sales ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.

As we suspected, our examination of MediWound's analyst forecasts revealed that its superior revenue outlook is contributing to its high P/S. At this stage investors feel the potential for a deterioration in revenues is quite remote, justifying the elevated P/S ratio. Unless these conditions change, they will continue to provide strong support to the share price.

Of course, profitable companies with a history of great earnings growth are generally safer bets. So you may wish to see this free collection of other companies that have reasonable P/E ratios and have grown earnings strongly.
