It's been a good week for Kforce Inc. (NYSE:KFRC) shareholders, because the company has just released its latest quarterly results, and the shares gained 3.3% to US$70.22. The result was positive overall - although revenues of US$356m were in line with what the analysts predicted, Kforce surprised by delivering a statutory profit of US$0.75 per share, modestly greater than expected. Following the result, the analysts have updated their earnings model, and it would be good to know whether they think there's been a strong change in the company's prospects, or if it's business as usual. So we collected the latest post-earnings statutory consensus estimates to see what could be in store for next year.

NYSE:KFRC Earnings and Revenue Growth July 31st 2024

Following last week's earnings report, Kforce's five analysts are forecasting 2024 revenues to be US$1.42b, approximately in line with the last 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are predicted to accumulate 5.2% to US$2.89. Yet prior to the latest earnings, the analysts had been anticipated revenues of US$1.43b and earnings per share (EPS) of US$2.99 in 2024. The analysts seem to have become a little more negative on the business after the latest results, given the small dip in their earnings per share numbers for next year.

It might be a surprise to learn that the consensus price target was broadly unchanged at US$68.75, with the analysts clearly implying that the forecast decline in earnings is not expected to have much of an impact on valuation. There's another way to think about price targets though, and that's to look at the range of price targets put forward by analysts, because a wide range of estimates could suggest a diverse view on possible outcomes for the business. The most optimistic Kforce analyst has a price target of US$71.00 per share, while the most pessimistic values it at US$66.00. The narrow spread of estimates could suggest that the business' future is relatively easy to value, or thatthe analysts have a strong view on its prospects.

Taking a look at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can understand these forecasts is to see how they compare to both past performance and industry growth estimates. We would highlight that revenue is expected to reverse, with a forecast 3.6% annualised decline to the end of 2024. That is a notable change from historical growth of 3.9% over the last five years. Compare this with our data, which suggests that other companies in the same industry are, in aggregate, expected to see their revenue grow 6.2% per year. It's pretty clear that Kforce's revenues are expected to perform substantially worse than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The biggest concern is that the analysts reduced their earnings per share estimates, suggesting business headwinds could lay ahead for Kforce. On the plus side, there were no major changes to revenue estimates; although forecasts imply they will perform worse than the wider industry. The consensus price target held steady at US$68.75, with the latest estimates not enough to have an impact on their price targets.

Keeping that in mind, we still think that the longer term trajectory of the business is much more important for investors to consider. We have estimates - from multiple Kforce analysts - going out to 2026, and you can see them free on our platform here.

You should always think about risks though. Case in point, we've spotted 1 warning sign for Kforce you should be aware of.
