Black Monday Hits Bursa Malaysia As KLCI Plummets Nearly 5%

Bursa Malaysia ended the trading session on Monday with a significant decline, reflecting broader market turmoil amid a dramatic drop in investor confidence.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) closed at 1,536.48, plunging by 74.57 points or 4.63% from the previous close. During the session, the index hit a low of 1,532.24 points.

The market experienced heavy losses with more than two-thirds of the stocks closing lower.

The broader market saw 1,659 stocks decline, 83 advance and 131 remain unchanged, with 532 stocks untraded. Market turnover surged to 9.26 billion shares valued at RM7.97 billion.

Despite the stock market downturn, the ringgit appreciated, closing at 4.4283 against the US dollar.
