Investors who take an interest in Quanterix Corporation (NASDAQ:QTRX) should definitely note that the President, Masoud Toloue, recently paid US$10.90 per share to buy US$207k worth of the stock. That's a very solid buy in our book, and increased their holding by a noteworthy 11%.

Quanterix Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Independent Director William P. Donnelly made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$502k worth of shares at a price of US$24.85 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being US$12.40). While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

While Quanterix insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. Their average price was about US$18.09. This is nice to see since it implies that insiders might see value around current prices. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. Does Quanterix Boast High Insider Ownership?

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Quanterix insiders own about US$26m worth of shares. That equates to 6.1% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

So What Do The Quanterix Insider Transactions Indicate?

The recent insider purchase is heartening. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses.
