An Insider At International Bancshares Lowered Their Holding Recently

インターナショナルバンクシェアーズの内部者が最近保有株を減らしました

From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in International Bancshares Corporation's (NASDAQ:IBOC ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At International Bancshares

The Director, Antonio Sanchez, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$4.7m worth of shares at a price of US$59.75 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$62.45). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. It is worth noting that this sale was only 2.6% of Antonio Sanchez's holding. Antonio Sanchez was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Antonio Sanchez sold a total of 290.00k shares over the year at an average price of US$51.19. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Does International Bancshares Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. International Bancshares insiders own about US$342m worth of shares (which is 9.1% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At International Bancshares Tell Us?

There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. It's great to see high levels of insider ownership, but looking back over the last year, we don't gain confidence from the International Bancshares insiders selling. Along with insider transactions, I recommend checking if International Bancshares is growing revenue. This free chart of historic revenue and earnings should make that easy.
