There's been a notable change in appetite for Onewo Inc. (HKG:2602) shares in the week since its half-yearly report, with the stock down 10% to HK$17.02. Onewo reported in line with analyst predictions, delivering revenues of CN¥18b and statutory earnings per share of CN¥1.66, suggesting the business is executing well and in line with its plan. Following the result, the analysts have updated their earnings model, and it would be good to know whether they think there's been a strong change in the company's prospects, or if it's business as usual. So we gathered the latest post-earnings forecasts to see what estimates suggest is in store for next year.
Following the latest results, Onewo's twelve analysts are now forecasting revenues of CN¥36.1b in 2024. This would be a credible 3.8% improvement in revenue compared to the last 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to rise 9.4% to CN¥1.61. Before this earnings report, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of CN¥37.0b and earnings per share (EPS) of CN¥1.85 in 2024. The analysts seem less optimistic after the recent results, reducing their revenue forecasts and making a real cut to earnings per share numbers.
The consensus price target fell 9.9% to HK$26.40, with the weaker earnings outlook clearly leading valuation estimates. There's another way to think about price targets though, and that's to look at the range of price targets put forward by analysts, because a wide range of estimates could suggest a diverse view on possible outcomes for the business. Currently, the most bullish analyst values Onewo at HK$40.12 per share, while the most bearish prices it at HK$18.11. Note the wide gap in analyst price targets? This implies to us that there is a fairly broad range of possible scenarios for the underlying business.
Another way we can view these estimates is in the context of the bigger picture, such as how the forecasts stack up against past performance, and whether forecasts are more or less bullish relative to other companies in the industry. The period to the end of 2024 brings more of the same, according to the analysts, with revenue forecast to display 7.8% growth on an annualised basis. That is in line with its 8.9% annual growth over the past year. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in a similar industry are forecast to see their revenues grow 5.5% per year. So although Onewo is expected to maintain its revenue growth rate, it's definitely expected to grow faster than the wider industry.
The Bottom Line
The biggest concern is that the analysts reduced their earnings per share estimates, suggesting business headwinds could lay ahead for Onewo. Regrettably, they also downgraded their revenue estimates, but the latest forecasts still imply the business will grow faster than the wider industry. The consensus price target fell measurably, with the analysts seemingly not reassured by the latest results, leading to a lower estimate of Onewo's future valuation.
Following on from that line of thought, we think that the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings. At Simply Wall St, we have a full range of analyst estimates for Onewo going out to 2026, and you can see them free on our platform here..
