Zhitong Finance has learned that Edgar Bronfman Jr. hopes that Paramount Pictures will collaborate with technology companies such as Amazon and Apple to improve their streaming business, if his bid successfully defeats Skydance Media. According to sources familiar with the matter cited by the media, Bronfman believes that Paramount Pictures should have more specific skills in streaming services, such as customer acquisition and advertising sales.
Last week, Bronfman increased his offer to acquire Paramount Pictures to $6 billion, surpassing his offer of $4.3 billion made on August 19. In addition to seeking to acquire control of Paramount for approximately $2.4 billion from the Redstone family holding company National Amusements Inc., Bronfman also plans to use the remaining funds to purchase Paramount stock and reduce its debt.
Bronfman's bid could disrupt Paramount Pictures' merger plans with Skydance Media. It is reported that Paramount Pictures has already accepted a bid from Skydance Media, a film and television company led by David Ellison. As part of the agreement, the company can solicit and consider other bids until 11:59 PM on Wednesday. There were reports last Wednesday that Paramount Pictures has extended the deadline for considering other bids.
The special committee of Paramount Pictures will decide whether Bronfman's offer is superior before August 28. If it is, Skydance Media will have four business days to match the offer.
It is reported that both Bronfman and Skydance Media have stated that if their acquisition offer is accepted, Shari Redstone, the Chairman of Paramount Pictures, will continue to serve on the board of directors. If Bronfman is successful, he will become the CEO and the current three Co-CEOs of Paramount Pictures will continue to serve.
