BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) today unveiled a new model sequence, Xia, on the first day of the Chengdu auto show, and gave the debut of the array's first model, the Xia MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), to further expand its product matrix.
The Xia MPV will be priced in the RMB 300,000 yuan ($42,340) class and will go on sale within the year, BYD said today.
The model belongs to BYD's Dynasty lineup, with the Xia being the first recorded dynasty of Chinese civilization. BYD's other main lineup is the Ocean.
Previous model families in BYD's Dynasty series include the Han, Tang, Qin, Song and Yuan, all of whom are named after Chinese historical dynasties.
The Xia MPV will be powered by BYD's fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, which was unveiled on May 28 and brings lower fuel consumption.
The vehicle's length, width and height are 5,145 mm, 1,970 mm and 1,805 mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 3,045 mm.
The only MPV currently available under BYD Group's umbrella in China is sub-brand Denza's D9, which measures 5,250 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,920 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,110 mm.
The Denza D9 has sold around 10,000 units per month for the past five months. In July, the D9 sold 9,030 units, contributing 87 percent of Denza's monthly sales of 10,340, data compiled by CnEVPost show.
On March 12, 2022, BYD launched the Song Max DM-i in China, the BYD brand's only MPV in the past two years. BYD's website is currently not continuing to display the Song Max DM-i.
Notably, BYD announced on July 21 that it had launched the M6 electric MPV in Indonesia, the first all-electric MPV for the local market. The M6 is not available in China.
