Investors Still Aren't Entirely Convinced By CSC Holdings Limited's (SGX:C06) Revenues Despite 50% Price Jump

CSC Holdings Limited (SGX:C06) shares have continued their recent momentum with a 50% gain in the last month alone. Taking a wider view, although not as strong as the last month, the full year gain of 13% is also fairly reasonable.

Although its price has surged higher, it's still not a stretch to say that CSC Holdings' price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.1x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Construction industry in Singapore, where the median P/S ratio is around 0.5x. However, investors might be overlooking a clear opportunity or potential setback if there is no rational basis for the P/S.

What Does CSC Holdings' Recent Performance Look Like?

The revenue growth achieved at CSC Holdings over the last year would be more than acceptable for most companies. Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to only keep up with the broader industry, which has keeping the P/S in line with expectations. Those who are bullish on CSC Holdings will be hoping that this isn't the case, so that they can pick up the stock at a lower valuation.

Is There Some Revenue Growth Forecasted For CSC Holdings?

The only time you'd be comfortable seeing a P/S like CSC Holdings' is when the company's growth is tracking the industry closely.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 15% last year. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 71% overall rise in revenue, aided by its short-term performance. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

When compared to the industry's one-year growth forecast of 13%, the most recent medium-term revenue trajectory is noticeably more alluring

With this information, we find it interesting that CSC Holdings is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance is at its limits and have been accepting lower selling prices.

What Does CSC Holdings' P/S Mean For Investors?

CSC Holdings appears to be back in favour with a solid price jump bringing its P/S back in line with other companies in the industry It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

We didn't quite envision CSC Holdings' P/S sitting in line with the wider industry, considering the revenue growth over the last three-year is higher than the current industry outlook. There could be some unobserved threats to revenue preventing the P/S ratio from matching this positive performance. At least the risk of a price drop looks to be subdued if recent medium-term revenue trends continue, but investors seem to think future revenue could see some volatility.

And what about other risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 3 warning signs for CSC Holdings (of which 2 are a bit concerning!) you should know about.
