Improved Revenues Required Before Lingda Group Co., Ltd. (SZSE:300125) Stock's 30% Jump Looks Justified

リンダグループ株式会社(SZSE:300125)の株価が30%上昇する前に、改善された収益が必要です

Lingda Group Co., Ltd. (SZSE:300125) shares have continued their recent momentum with a 30% gain in the last month alone. Still, the 30-day jump doesn't change the fact that longer term shareholders have seen their stock decimated by the 69% share price drop in the last twelve months.

In spite of the firm bounce in price, Lingda Group may still be sending buy signals at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 3.3x, considering almost half of all companies in the Semiconductor industry in China have P/S ratios greater than 4.8x and even P/S higher than 9x aren't out of the ordinary. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

How Has Lingda Group Performed Recently?

For instance, Lingda Group's receding revenue in recent times would have to be some food for thought. Perhaps the market believes the recent revenue performance isn't good enough to keep up the industry, causing the P/S ratio to suffer. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The Low P/S?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should underperform the industry for P/S ratios like Lingda Group's to be considered reasonable.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered a frustrating 73% decrease to the company's top line. As a result, revenue from three years ago have also fallen 54% overall. Accordingly, shareholders would have felt downbeat about the medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Weighing that medium-term revenue trajectory against the broader industry's one-year forecast for expansion of 36% shows it's an unpleasant look.

With this information, we are not surprised that Lingda Group is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. Nonetheless, there's no guarantee the P/S has reached a floor yet with revenue going in reverse. There's potential for the P/S to fall to even lower levels if the company doesn't improve its top-line growth.

What We Can Learn From Lingda Group's P/S?

Despite Lingda Group's share price climbing recently, its P/S still lags most other companies. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

Our examination of Lingda Group confirms that the company's shrinking revenue over the past medium-term is a key factor in its low price-to-sales ratio, given the industry is projected to grow. At this stage investors feel the potential for an improvement in revenue isn't great enough to justify a higher P/S ratio. If recent medium-term revenue trends continue, it's hard to see the share price moving strongly in either direction in the near future under these circumstances.
