AirAsia is set to expand its domestic connectivity across Malaysia by adding 2,000 weekly flights and 150,000 seats across 40 key routes by the end of the year. The low-cost carrier is also ramping up its domestic operations, with 1.7 million seats available for booking by year-end.
"Timed to meet the growing demand for year-end travel, this expansion will provide more flight options and flexibility for local and regional guests, connecting them to diverse and vibrant destinations across Malaysia," AirAsia said in a statement today.
With this expansion, AirAsia's market share is projected to grow to 64 per cent, solidifying its leading position in the Malaysian aviation sector.
AirAsia Malaysia Managing Director, Datuk Fareh Mazputra, highlighted that the airline's growth is not just about flying more routes but about supporting the national economy and enhancing connectivity. "Our growth and market leadership are not just about flying more routes but about playing a pivotal role in supporting the national economy and enhancing connectivity. However, these efforts cannot be done by AirAsia alone," he said.
Fareh also called on all stakeholders, including the government, airports, tourism bodies, and industry players, to collaborate in making travel more accessible and affordable, particularly for Malaysians.
In line with its commitment to enhancing the customer experience, AirAsia has introduced AirAsia Plus, which offers additional value to passengers flying to and from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport. "The AirAsia Plus fare includes 7kg cabin baggage, 20kg checked baggage, seat selection, in-flight meal or snack, as well as baggage and on-time guarantee insurance," the carrier added.
This expansion is expected to meet the growing demand for year-end travel, opening up opportunities for regional travellers to experience Malaysia's unique destinations, cultures, and cuisines.
