Quite a few insiders have dramatically grown their holdings in Erasca, Inc. (NASDAQ:ERAS) over the past 12 months. An insider's optimism about the company's prospects is a positive sign.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Erasca

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Co-Founder Jonathan Lim for US$2.0m worth of shares, at about US$2.03 per share. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of US$2.60. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

In the last twelve months Erasca insiders were buying shares, but not selling. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 12% of Erasca shares, worth about US$98m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

So What Do The Erasca Insider Transactions Indicate?

It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Erasca shares in the last quarter. But insiders have shown more of an appetite for the stock, over the last year. Insiders do have a stake in Erasca and their transactions don't cause us concern. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. Be aware that Erasca is showing 5 warning signs in our investment analysis, and 3 of those can't be ignored...
