SiTime Corporation (NASDAQ:SITM) Stocks Shoot Up 27% But Its P/S Still Looks Reasonable

サイタイム社(ナスダック:SITM)の株式が27%急騰しましたが、P/Sはまだ合理的に見えます。

Simply Wall St ·  09/28 09:27

Despite an already strong run, SiTime Corporation (NASDAQ:SITM) shares have been powering on, with a gain of 27% in the last thirty days. Looking back a bit further, it's encouraging to see the stock is up 54% in the last year.

Following the firm bounce in price, SiTime's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 26.3x might make it look like a strong sell right now compared to other companies in the Semiconductor industry in the United States, where around half of the companies have P/S ratios below 4.1x and even P/S below 1.7x are quite common. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so lofty.

How SiTime Has Been Performing

SiTime could be doing better as its revenue has been going backwards lately while most other companies have been seeing positive revenue growth. One possibility is that the P/S ratio is high because investors think this poor revenue performance will turn the corner. However, if this isn't the case, investors might get caught out paying too much for the stock.

Keen to find out how analysts think SiTime's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The High P/S?

SiTime's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver very strong growth, and importantly, perform much better than the industry.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered a frustrating 23% decrease to the company's top line. At least revenue has managed not to go completely backwards from three years ago in aggregate, thanks to the earlier period of growth. So it appears to us that the company has had a mixed result in terms of growing revenue over that time.

Looking ahead now, revenue is anticipated to climb by 31% per annum during the coming three years according to the five analysts following the company. That's shaping up to be materially higher than the 24% per year growth forecast for the broader industry.

In light of this, it's understandable that SiTime's P/S sits above the majority of other companies. It seems most investors are expecting this strong future growth and are willing to pay more for the stock.

The Bottom Line On SiTime's P/S

Shares in SiTime have seen a strong upwards swing lately, which has really helped boost its P/S figure. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.

Our look into SiTime shows that its P/S ratio remains high on the merit of its strong future revenues. It appears that shareholders are confident in the company's future revenues, which is propping up the P/S. Unless these conditions change, they will continue to provide strong support to the share price.
