Xpeng has officially unveiled the P7+ electric sedan, calling it the world's first AI car. Its pre-sales will begin on October 14, with the official launch and deliveries starting in November.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has officially unveiled its new model, the P7+, with formal launch and deliveries of the electric sedan set to begin in about a month.
The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker introduced the P7+ at an event in Shenzhen today, saying the model is the world's first AI (artificial intelligence) vehicle that uses AI technology in a variety of areas, including smart driving, power, energy control and thermal management.
Xpeng did not mention pricing information for the P7+ today, saying that the model will begin pre-sales at the 2024 Paris auto show on October 14, and will be formally launched and start deliveries in China in early November.
The P7+ is Xpeng's new model internally codenamed F57 which CnEVPost reported in a July 9 exclusive will not use any LiDAR, with the intelligent driving system switching to a vision-only solution similar to Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA).
Xpeng calls the solution an "Eagle Eye" vision solution, saying that it has the ability to collect information more accurately, more clearly, and from a farther distance than traditional cameras, with the ability to cover an area as large as 1.8 standard football fields.
The new smart driving solution is not limited by city, route or road conditions, and has "door-to-door" and "parking space-to-parking space" intelligent driving capabilities, Xpeng said.
The system is powered by two Nvidia Orin X chips, and Xpeng's XNGP (Xpeng navigation guided pilot) assisted driving feature will be available when the vehicle is delivered, according to the company.
The P7+ is a mid-to-large size electric sedan with length, width and height of 5,056 mm, 1,937 mm and 1,512 mm respectively and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm.
The dimensions are larger than those of the Xpeng P7i sedan, which measures 4,888 mm in length, 1,896 mm in width and 1,450 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,998 mm.
It is powered by lithium iron phosphate battery packs with 60.7 kWh and 76.3 kWh capacity options and CLTC ranges of 620 km and 710 km respectively.
The P7+'s exterior design has been optimized to reduce wind resistance, and Xpeng said the model consumes as little as 11.6 kWh of electricity per 100 km.
Its cockpit is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, which is now standard on mainstream high-end EV models.
Show cars of the P7+ are already available at some Xpeng stores, with the official launch and deliveries set for early November, Xpeng said.
Production of the model has completed a capacity creep phase to allow for quicker delivery of vehicles, it said.
