Alliance Bank Malaysia Bhd has appointed Tan Sri Amirsham Bin Abdul Aziz as the group's new Chairman effective 10 Oct.
Under the stewardship of Amirsham, Alliance Bank will continue to implement the Acceler8 2027 initiative towards becoming "The Bank For Life".
Amirsham is a veteran in the economic and financial field with extensive knowledge of public policies.
He was with Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) for over three decades, holding several senior managerial positions including President and Chief Executive Officer for 14 years.
The financier was formerly the Chairman of Bursa Malaysia Bhd.
From March 2008 to April 2009, he was the overseer of the Economic Planning Unit and Department of Statistics as the Minister in the Prime Minister's Office.
He was also the Chairman of the National Economic Advisory Council (NEAC) from June 2009 to May 2011.
Currently, he is the Chairman of Sunway REIT Management Sdn Bhd and Board member of Hap Seng Plantations Holdings Berhad.
Amirsham, 74, holds a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) degree from the University of Malaya and is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
