Many EPAM Systems, Inc. (NYSE:EPAM) insiders ditched their stock over the past year, which may be of interest to the company's shareholders. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At EPAM Systems

The Co-Founder, Arkadiy Dobkin, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$9.1m worth of shares at a price of US$307 each. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$199. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it.

EPAM Systems insiders didn't buy any shares over the last year. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. EPAM Systems insiders own 3.2% of the company, currently worth about US$364m based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.

So What Do The EPAM Systems Insider Transactions Indicate?

It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded EPAM Systems shares in the last quarter. While we feel good about high insider ownership of EPAM Systems, we can't say the same about the selling of shares.
