Quite a few Bloom Energy Corporation (NYSE:BE) insiders sold their shares over the past year, which may be a cause for concern. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Bloom Energy
The Independent Director, Eddie Zervigon, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$362k worth of shares at a price of US$12.86 each. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (US$9.73). So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

Insiders At Bloom Energy Have Sold Stock Recently
Over the last three months, we've seen a bit of insider selling at Bloom Energy. Chief Operations Officer Satish Chitoori sold just US$47k worth of shares in that time. It's not great to see insider selling, nor the lack of recent buyers. But the amount sold isn't enough for us to put any weight on it.
Does Bloom Energy Boast High Insider Ownership?
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Bloom Energy insiders own 2.8% of the company, worth about US$63m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
So What Do The Bloom Energy Insider Transactions Indicate?
We did not see any insider buying in the last three months, but we did see selling. But given the selling was modest, we're not worried. Recent insider selling makes us a little nervous, in light of the broader picture of Bloom Energy insider transactions. But we do like the fact that insiders own a fair chunk of the company.
