Looking at Galaxy Entertainment Group Limited's (HKG:27 ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net sellers. That is, there were more number of shares sold by insiders than there were purchased.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Galaxy Entertainment Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Independent Non-Executive Director, Michael Victor Mecca, for HK$7.3m worth of shares, at about HK$36.65 per share. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of HK$33.10. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it. Michael Victor Mecca was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Galaxy Entertainment Group Insiders Are Selling The Stock

The last three months saw significant insider selling at Galaxy Entertainment Group. Specifically, Independent Non-Executive Director Michael Victor Mecca ditched HK$7.3m worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. This may suggest that some insiders think that the shares are not cheap.

Insider Ownership Of Galaxy Entertainment Group

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Galaxy Entertainment Group insiders own about HK$6.6b worth of shares (which is 4.6% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

But since Galaxy Entertainment Group is profitable and growing, we're not too worried by this. It is good to see high insider ownership, but the insider selling leaves us cautious.
