Potential AdvanSix Inc. (NYSE:ASIX) shareholders may wish to note that the Independent Director, Donald Newman, recently bought US$149k worth of stock, paying US$29.64 for each share. However, it only increased shareholding by a small percentage, and it wasn't a huge purchase by absolute value, either.

AdvanSix Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent purchase by Donald Newman was the biggest purchase of AdvanSix shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. That implies that an insider found the current price of US$29.91 per share to be enticing. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider bought shares at close to current prices. Donald Newman was the only individual insider to buy during the last year.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Insiders own 3.1% of AdvanSix shares, worth about US$24m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

So What Does This Data Suggest About AdvanSix Insiders?

It is good to see the recent insider purchase. And the longer term insider transactions also give us confidence.
