Peraso Inc. (NASDAQ:PRSO) Not Doing Enough For Some Investors As Its Shares Slump 55%

モシス・インク(ナスダック:PRSO)は、株価が55%下落しているため、一部の投資家に対して十分ではない。

Simply Wall St ·  11/26 18:43

Peraso Inc. (NASDAQ:PRSO) shareholders won't be pleased to see that the share price has had a very rough month, dropping 55% and undoing the prior period's positive performance. The recent drop completes a disastrous twelve months for shareholders, who are sitting on a 89% loss during that time.

Since its price has dipped substantially, Peraso may be sending very bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.3x, since almost half of all companies in the Semiconductor industry in the United States have P/S ratios greater than 4.2x and even P/S higher than 9x are not unusual. However, the P/S might be quite low for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

How Peraso Has Been Performing

Peraso hasn't been tracking well recently as its declining revenue compares poorly to other companies, which have seen some growth in their revenues on average. Perhaps the P/S remains low as investors think the prospects of strong revenue growth aren't on the horizon. So while you could say the stock is cheap, investors will be looking for improvement before they see it as good value.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The Low P/S?

Peraso's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver very poor growth or even falling revenue, and importantly, perform much worse than the industry.

In reviewing the last year of financials, we were disheartened to see the company's revenues fell to the tune of 19%. However, a few very strong years before that means that it was still able to grow revenue by an impressive 31% in total over the last three years. Although it's been a bumpy ride, it's still fair to say the revenue growth recently has been more than adequate for the company.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the three analysts covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 14% per year over the next three years. With the industry predicted to deliver 25% growth per year, the company is positioned for a weaker revenue result.

In light of this, it's understandable that Peraso's P/S sits below the majority of other companies. Apparently many shareholders weren't comfortable holding on while the company is potentially eyeing a less prosperous future.

The Key Takeaway

Having almost fallen off a cliff, Peraso's share price has pulled its P/S way down as well. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.

As expected, our analysis of Peraso's analyst forecasts confirms that the company's underwhelming revenue outlook is a major contributor to its low P/S. Shareholders' pessimism on the revenue prospects for the company seems to be the main contributor to the depressed P/S. Unless these conditions improve, they will continue to form a barrier for the share price around these levels.
