BYD has filed for the all-electric Sealion 05, hybrid Seal 05, and hybrid Seal 07, with the Sealion 07 starting to be offered in variants with a more performance-oriented DM-p system.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) made regulatory filings for a number of models, revealing part of what's next in the product pipeline for China's largest new energy vehicle (NEV) maker.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released its latest catalog of models that will soon be allowed to be sold for public comment yesterday, which includes models such as the BYD Sealion 05, Seal 05 and Seal 07.
The public can submit their feedback between December 10-16. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process by which a model can be allowed to be sold in China.
Sealion 05 EV
(Sealion 05 EV in a regulatory filing in China.)
There are two versions of the Sealion 05 in the MIIT catalog, both of which are purely electric, and are manufactured at BYD's production sites in Changsha, Hunan province, Hefei, Anhui province, Jinan, Shandong province, Zhengzhou, Henan province, and Shenzhen, Guangdong province.
The five-seat SUV (sport utility vehicle) measures 4,520 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,630 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm.
These dimensions are slightly smaller than those of the hybrid Sealion 05 DM-i, which measures 4,710 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width and 1,690/1,720 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,712 mm.
The two versions of the Sealion 05 EV weigh 1,780 kg and 1,670 kg, respectively, and both support a top speed of 180 kilometers per hour.
The models are both powered by a single electric motor with peak power options of 140 kW and 160 kW.
BYD's Sealion range currently on sale includes the Sealion 07 EV and Sealion 05 DM-i.
The Sealion 05 EV will be the second pure electric model in the Sealion series after the Sealion 07 EV.
The Sealion 05 DM-i was launched on September 23 and is equipped with BYD's latest DM 5.0 hybrid technology, while the Sealion 07 EV was launched on May 10 and is the first model on BYD's all-electric e-Platform 3.0 Evo platform.
Seal 05
There are four versions of the Seal 05 in the filing and they are all hybrids.
The plug-in hybrid sedan measures 4,780 mm in length, 1,837 mm in width and 1,515 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,718 mm.
The model is powered by an engine with a displacement of 1,498 ml and 74 kW. All four versions are powered by a single motor with a peak power of 120 kW.
The four versions of the Seal 05 hybrid weigh 1,480 kg, 1,580 kg, 1,480 kg, 1,580 kg and support a top speed of 180 kilometers per hour.
Currently, the BYD Seal family on sale includes the Seal 06 GT, 2025 Seal sedan, Seal 07 DM-i, and Seal 06 DM-i.
Seal 07
The Seal 07 is not an all-new model; the Seal 07 DM-i, currently on sale, was launched on August 8 with BYD's fifth-generation DM hybrid technology.
There are four versions of the Seal 07 in the latest filing and they are all hybrids.
The plug-in hybrid SUV measures 4,880 mm, 1,920 mm and 1,750 mm in length, width and height respectively, and has a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. The Seal 07 DM-i currently on sale measures 4,980 mm, 1,890 mm and 1,495 mm in length, width and height respectively, and has a wheelbase of 2,900 mm.
The new Seal 07 is all powered by an engine with a displacement of 1,498 ml and 115 kW.
Both single-motor versions have an electric motor with a peak power of 200 kW, while the dual-motor version has an additional electric motor with a peak power of 150 kW.
The new Seal 07's dual-motor version has the words DM-p, 4.7s on the rear, meaning that the variant has a powerful performance and can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds.
BYD's DM hybrid system is divided into the more fuel economy oriented DM-i and the more performance oriented DM-p. In the past year, almost all the models launched by the NEV maker have been equipped with the DM-i system and almost no new DM-p models have been launched.
The four versions of the new Seal 07 weigh 2,103 kg, 2,270 kg, 2,193 kg, and 2,346 kg, and all support a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
Apart from these models, BYD has also filed for other models including the new Qin Plus, Dolphin, Denza N9 and Fang Cheng Bao Tai 3.
