Drought, Water Stress Could Affect Mexico's Clean Energy Plans -- Market Talk

Dow Jones Newswires ·  2021/08/12 15:45

1545 ET - A drought in Mexico this year and a likely increase in water stress could affect Mexico's plans to generate more clean energy, Moody's Investors Service said. The country's national water commission sees a likely increase in water stress over the coming years, Moody's said. "Water scarcity will limit hydroelectric power generation capacity, complicating Mexico's efforts to reach its target of generating 35% of electricity from clean energy sources by 2024," Moody's said. Regional and local governments may also be affected as they work to provide potable water, sewerage and other services, according to Moody's. (stephen.nakrosis@wsj.com)
