Chinese Shares End Higher; Coal Producers, Renewable-Energy Companies Gain -- Market Talk

0720 GMT - Chinese shares closed higher with coal and renewable-energy companies rising. Renewable-energy companies are facing tailwinds from continued policy support as China seeks to decarbonize. LONGi Green Energy Technology was 3.6% higher, China Three Gorges Renewables rose 2.3% and China Yangtze Power advanced 0.7%. Coal producers, on the other hand, are likely benefiting from high coal prices as the country faces an energy crunch. Yanzhou Coal Mining added 7.7% while China Shenhua Energy rose 3.9%. The Shanghai Composite Index ended 0.4% higher at 3572.37, the Shenzhen Composite Index gained 0.1% at 2400.52 while the ChiNext Price Index rose 1.9% to 3276.32. (yongchang.chin@wsj.com)
