Two of Tesla's models that are not manufactured in China -- the Model S and Model X -- have entered a list of vehicles exempt from vehicle purchase tax, signaling that their delivery to local consumers is imminent.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) today announced the latest batch of new energy vehicles (NEVs) exempt from vehicle purchase tax, and the Model S and Model X are included.
As a background, China's current purchase tax exemption for NEVs, which was set to expire at the end of this year, has been extended to the end of 2023.
In the list published by the MIIT, Model S and Model X each include two variants, with models MSP2P and MSP2LR, MXP2P and MXP2LR, respectively.
All four models have a power cell capacity of 100 kWh and a battery pack weight of 560 kg.

Tesla unveiled the Model S Plaid in the US in September 2020, powered by three electric motors that can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 1.99 seconds. The company's CEO Elon Musk called it the fastest production car ever built.
Tesla began deliveries of the model in the US in early June 2021 and removed the more capable Plaid + model.
In late November last year, Musk tweeted in response to @JayinShanghai, a Twitter user who closely follows the company, that the Model S Plaid could be coming to China around March 2022. However, that never became a reality.
Notably, car blogger @常岩CY shared several photos of the Model S Plaid taken in Foshan, Guangdong province on Weibo today, the first time the model has appeared in China.
