Science Applications International Insiders Sell US$2.8m Of Stock, Possibly Signalling Caution

Simply Wall St ·  Nov 21, 2023 01:06

The fact that multiple Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE:SAIC) insiders offloaded a considerable amount of shares over the past year could have raised some eyebrows amongst investors. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying versus if they selling is usually more beneficial, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Science Applications International Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the President of Defense & Civilian Sector, Robert Genter, sold US$1.0m worth of shares at a price of US$107 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$115. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. We note that the biggest single sale was only 14% of Robert Genter's holding.
