“Sakura Cloud,” an IaaS type cloud provided by Sakura Internet Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka-shi, Osaka; President and CEO: Kunihiro Tanaka; hereafter, “Sakura Internet”), which provides cloud computing services, has been certified as a “cloud service for government cloud development” (hereafter, “government cloud”) recruited by the Digital Agency in fiscal 2023. This certification is a conditional certification that assumes that all technical requirements are met by the end of fiscal year 2025.
As a result of this selection, “Sakura Cloud” was targeted in “verification work, etc. relating to government cloud development projects” promoted by the Digital Agency.
In the future, in addition to strengthening the development of “Sakura Cloud” as the main cloud environment, some peripheral functions will be developed using third-party products such as Microsoft products, etc., and we aim to provide them as government clouds during fiscal 2025.
Sakura Internet will continue to provide a fast, flexible, and secure cloud infrastructure so that all customers can operate and provide cloud services with peace of mind.
Comment from President and CEO Kunihiro Tanaka
Due to the trend of cloud shift, the flow of cloud usage is accelerating not only in the private sector but also in the public sector. Under such circumstances, the use of public clouds has been promoted in Japan as a government cloud, but until now there have been no domestic operators entering, and there have been concerns about further expansion of the digital trade deficit of 4.7 trillion yen*1. However, the hurdles should not be lowered so that domestic operators can enter, and I believe that optimal use of public clouds is desirable both domestically and internationally. Among them, we submitted a plan to satisfy functions by the end of fiscal 2025, and we are working to complete it. Also, through a partnership with Microsoft, some functions will be satisfied with technology that can be utilized globally. As a company that supports Japan's digital infrastructure, we will continue to meet expectations.

I would like to express my sincere congratulations on the conditional adoption of “Sakura Cloud” into Government Cloud. For some time now, we have promoted collaboration in the IoT business area and joint marketing measures relating to the use of satellite data in the cloud, etc. with Sakura Internet as partners. Going forward, we would like to continue strengthening partnerships not only in the government area, but also in various fields such as providing cloud infrastructure to the private sector and utilizing AI in-house, and accelerate cloud business in Japan. Going forward, we will continue to cooperate even more closely with Sakura Internet to contribute to Japan's digital transformation.
