44% Of This Everest Group Insider's Holdings Were Sold

Simply Wall St ·  Dec 15, 2023 05:58

Insiders were net sellers of Everest Group, Ltd.'s (NYSE:EG ) stock during the past year. That is, insiders sold more stock than they bought.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Everest Group

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the insider, John Weber, sold US$1.1m worth of shares at a price of US$320 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$361, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. It is worth noting that this sale was only 44% of John Weber's holding. John Weber was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Does Everest Group Boast High Insider Ownership?

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It's great to see that Everest Group insiders own 1.4% of the company, worth about US$229m. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
