Insider Stock Buyers At Health Catalyst Recouped Some Losses This Week

Simply Wall St ·  Dec 15, 2023 06:36

Insiders who bought US$499.6k worth of Health Catalyst, Inc. (NASDAQ:HCAT) stock in the last year recovered part of their losses as the stock rose by 15% last week. However, total losses seen by insiders are still US$65k since the time of purchase.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Health Catalyst Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The CEO & Director Daniel Burton made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$500k worth of shares at a price of US$10.19 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$8.87. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. It is encouraging to see an insider paid above the current price for shares, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was Daniel Burton.

Does Health Catalyst Boast High Insider Ownership?

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Health Catalyst insiders own 2.7% of the company, worth about US$13m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
