A number of P10, Inc. (NYSE:PX) insiders sold their shares in the last year, which may have raised concerns among investors. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

P10 Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The insider, Andrew Nelson, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$252k worth of shares at a price of US$12.66 each. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (US$10.20). So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.

In total, P10 insiders sold more than they bought over the last year. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you click on the chart, you can see all the individual transactions, including the share price, individual, and the date!

P10 Insiders Are Selling The Stock

Over the last three months, we've seen notably more insider selling, than insider buying, at P10. In total, insider Alexander Abell sold US$199k worth of shares in that time. On the flip side, Independent Director David McCoy spent US$136k on purchasing shares (as mentioned above) . Because the selling vastly outweighs the buying, we'd say this is a somewhat bearish sign.

Does P10 Boast High Insider Ownership?

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. P10 insiders own 30% of the company, currently worth about US$358m based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.

So What Do The P10 Insider Transactions Indicate?

The insider sales have outweighed the insider buying, at P10, in the last three months. Zooming out, the longer term picture doesn't give us much comfort. The company boasts high insider ownership, but we're a little hesitant, given the history of share sales. In addition to knowing about insider transactions going on, it's beneficial to identify the risks facing P10.
