Insiders At Boyd Gaming Sold US$99m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness

Simply Wall St ·  Dec 28, 2023 07:41

The fact that multiple Boyd Gaming Corporation (NYSE:BYD) insiders offloaded a considerable amount of shares over the past year could have raised some eyebrows amongst investors. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Boyd Gaming

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Executive Chairman, Marianne Johnson, sold US$24m worth of shares at a price of US$66.50 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$63.00. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).
