The truth is that if you invest for long enough, you're going to end up with some losing stocks. But the long term shareholders of Yijiahe Technology Co., Ltd. (SHSE:603666) have had an unfortunate run in the last three years. Sadly for them, the share price is down 62% in that time. The more recent news is of little comfort, with the share price down 40% in a year. Unfortunately the share price momentum is still quite negative, with prices down 25% in thirty days.

Given the past week has been tough on shareholders, let's investigate the fundamentals and see what we can learn.

While the efficient markets hypothesis continues to be taught by some, it has been proven that markets are over-reactive dynamic systems, and investors are not always rational. By comparing earnings per share (EPS) and share price changes over time, we can get a feel for how investor attitudes to a company have morphed over time.

Yijiahe Technology saw its share price decline over the three years in which its EPS also dropped, falling to a loss. Due to the loss, it's not easy to use EPS as a reliable guide to the business. But it's safe to say we'd generally expect the share price to be lower as a result!

A Different Perspective

We regret to report that Yijiahe Technology shareholders are down 40% for the year. Unfortunately, that's worse than the broader market decline of 21%. Having said that, it's inevitable that some stocks will be oversold in a falling market. The key is to keep your eyes on the fundamental developments. Longer term investors wouldn't be so upset, since they would have made 1.2%, each year, over five years. If the fundamental data continues to indicate long term sustainable growth, the current sell-off could be an opportunity worth considering. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. Consider for instance, the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 1 warning sign with Yijiahe Technology , and understanding them should be part of your investment process.
