Malaysian shares ended marginally in the green territory on Wednesday, after the day started with lackluster trading ahead of the Chinese New Year long weekend break, but picked up some pace as the session progressed.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI, the main gauge of Malaysian stocks, gained 0.13 points to end 0.01% higher at 1,513.11. The day ranged between 1,510.20 and 1,514.05.
In economic news, short-term interbank rates ended steady today on the central bank's operations to absorb surplus liquidity from the financial system.
In the traditional system, liquidity dropped to 28.92 billion ringgit from 32.59 billion ringgit, while liquidity in Islamic funds declined to 23.54 billion ringgit from 23.73 billion ringgit.
In corporate news, shares of the integrated circuit design service provider Oppstar (KLSE:OPPSTAR) jumped over 12%, and those of the latex glove manufacturer Tanco (KLSE:TANCO) rallied over 11% at Wednesday's close.
Meanwhile, shares of YTL Power (KLSE:YTLPOWR) gained over 4% on Wednesday's close.
