One Paylocity Holding Insider Has Reduced Their Stake

Simply Wall St ·  Feb 13 10:17

Viewing insider transactions for Paylocity Holding Corporation's (NASDAQ:PCTY ) over the last year, we see that insiders were net sellers. This means that a larger number of shares were sold by insiders in relation to shares purchased.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Paylocity Holding

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Bernard Kenneth, for US$56k worth of shares, at about US$202 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$175. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. Bernard Kenneth was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Paylocity Holding insiders own 22% of the company, currently worth about US$2.2b based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.

So What Do The Paylocity Holding Insider Transactions Indicate?

It's heartening that insiders own plenty of stock, but we'd like to see more insider buying, since the last year of Paylocity Holding insider transactions don't fill us with confidence.
