According to the news, Manulife Financial announced yesterday that in the fourth quarter of 2023, net revenue due to shareholders increased 81% year over year to 1,659 billion Canadian dollars, and core profit increased 15% year over year to 1,773 billion Canadian dollars; for the whole of 2023, net revenue attributable to shareholders was 5.103 billion Canadian dollars, core profit increased 13% year over year to 6.684 billion Canadian dollars, and announced a 9.6% increase in common stock dividends.
According to the announcement, compared with 2022, the increase in core profit in 2023 is mainly due to improved insurance experience, the net impact of rising interest rates, and business growth. However, anticipated credit losses (ECL), rising performance-related costs, and increased investment in technology offset some of this increase.
