HealthStream Senior Vice President of Workforce Development Solutions Trisha Coady Sells 32% Of Holding

Simply Wall St ·  Feb 24 08:04

We'd be surprised if HealthStream, Inc. (NASDAQ:HSTM) shareholders haven't noticed that the Senior Vice President of Workforce Development Solutions, Trisha Coady, recently sold US$184k worth of stock at US$26.34 per share. The eyebrow raising move amounted to a reduction of 32% in their holding.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At HealthStream

The insider, J. Pearson, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$378k worth of shares at a price of US$24.96 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$26.81). We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. It is worth noting that this sale was only 7.8% of J. Pearson's holding.

In the last year HealthStream insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. HealthStream insiders own 21% of the company, currently worth about US$172m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
