DuoLun Technology (SHSE:603528) Adds CN¥1.1b to Market Cap in the Past 7 Days, Though Investors From a Year Ago Are Still Down 33%

Simply Wall St ·  Feb 25 23:28

DuoLun Technology Corporation Ltd. (SHSE:603528) has rebounded strongly over the last week, with the share price soaring 32%. But in truth the last year hasn't been good for the share price. The cold reality is that the stock has dropped 33% in one year, under-performing the market.

On a more encouraging note the company has added CN¥1.1b to its market cap in just the last 7 days, so let's see if we can determine what's driven the one-year loss for shareholders.

While DuoLun Technology made a small profit, in the last year, we think that the market is probably more focussed on the top line growth at the moment. Generally speaking, we'd consider a stock like this alongside loss-making companies, simply because the quantum of the profit is so low. It would be hard to believe in a more profitable future without growing revenues.

In just one year DuoLun Technology saw its revenue fall by 8.2%. That's not what investors generally want to see. Shareholders have seen the share price drop 33% in that time. That seems pretty reasonable given the lack of both profits and revenue growth. It's hard to escape the conclusion that buyers must envision either growth down the track, cost cutting, or both.

A Different Perspective

While the broader market lost about 17% in the twelve months, DuoLun Technology shareholders did even worse, losing 33% (even including dividends). However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there's a good opportunity. Regrettably, last year's performance caps off a bad run, with the shareholders facing a total loss of 1.1% per year over five years. We realise that Baron Rothschild has said investors should "buy when there is blood on the streets", but we caution that investors should first be sure they are buying a high quality business. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand DuoLun Technology better, we need to consider many other factors. For example, we've discovered 4 warning signs for DuoLun Technology (1 shouldn't be ignored!) that you should be aware of before investing here.
