Revenues Tell The Story For Kanzhun Limited (NASDAQ:BZ) As Its Stock Soars 44%

Simply Wall St ·  Mar 13 07:10

Kanzhun Limited (NASDAQ:BZ) shares have had a really impressive month, gaining 44% after a shaky period beforehand. Looking further back, the 16% rise over the last twelve months isn't too bad notwithstanding the strength over the last 30 days.

Since its price has surged higher, given around half the companies in the United States' Interactive Media and Services industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") below 1.9x, you may consider Kanzhun as a stock to avoid entirely with its 12x P/S ratio. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the highly elevated P/S.

How Has Kanzhun Performed Recently?

The revenue growth achieved at Kanzhun over the last year would be more than acceptable for most companies. One possibility is that the P/S ratio is high because investors think this respectable revenue growth will be enough to outperform the broader industry in the near future. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

Is There Enough Revenue Growth Forecasted For Kanzhun?

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as steep as Kanzhun's is when the company's growth is on track to outshine the industry decidedly.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 21% last year. The strong recent performance means it was also able to grow revenue by 181% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

Comparing that to the industry, which is only predicted to deliver 14% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is stronger based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.

With this in consideration, it's not hard to understand why Kanzhun's P/S is high relative to its industry peers. It seems most investors are expecting this strong growth to continue and are willing to pay more for the stock.

The Bottom Line On Kanzhun's P/S

Kanzhun's P/S has grown nicely over the last month thanks to a handy boost in the share price. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

As we suspected, our examination of Kanzhun revealed its three-year revenue trends are contributing to its high P/S, given they look better than current industry expectations. At this stage investors feel the potential continued revenue growth in the future is great enough to warrant an inflated P/S. Barring any significant changes to the company's ability to make money, the share price should continue to be propped up.
