60% Of This EQT Insider's Holdings Were Sold

Simply Wall St ·  Mar 13 21:09

Insiders were net sellers of EQT Corporation's (NYSE:EQT ) stock during the past year. That is, insiders sold more stock than they bought.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At EQT

The Chief Accounting Officer, Todd James, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.2m worth of shares at a price of US$38.56 each. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$34.52. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Todd James.

The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Insider Ownership

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Insiders own 0.6% of EQT shares, worth about US$94m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
