In the last year, many Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE:CARR) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
Carrier Global Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
The President of Fire & Security, Jurgen Timperman, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$3.3m worth of shares at a price of US$45.01 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$57.31). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. We note that the biggest single sale was 65% of Jurgen Timperman's holding.
In the last year Carrier Global insiders didn't buy any company stock. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Insiders At Carrier Global Have Sold Stock Recently
The last quarter saw substantial insider selling of Carrier Global shares. In total, insiders dumped US$4.9m worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. This may suggest that some insiders think that the shares are not cheap.
Does Carrier Global Boast High Insider Ownership?
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It's great to see that Carrier Global insiders own 6.7% of the company, worth about US$3.5b. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About Carrier Global Insiders?
Insiders sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. Looking to the last twelve months, our data doesn't show any insider buying. It is good to see high insider ownership, but the insider selling leaves us cautious. While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. For example, Carrier Global has 4 warning signs (and 1 which doesn't sit too well with us) we think you should know about.
