Insiders were net sellers of Boston Scientific Corporation's (NYSE:BSX ) stock during the past year. That is, insiders sold more stock than they bought.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Boston Scientific

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the insider, Eric Francis Thepaut, sold US$2.8m worth of shares at a price of US$52.49 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$67.29. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. This single sale was 81% of Eric Francis Thepaut's stake. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Eric Francis Thepaut.

Does Boston Scientific Boast High Insider Ownership?

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that Boston Scientific insiders own 0.2% of the company, worth about US$206m. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
