Market Cool On Infotmic Co.,Ltd's (SZSE:000670) Revenues Pushing Shares 25% Lower

Simply Wall St ·  Apr 22 19:49

Infotmic Co.,Ltd (SZSE:000670) shareholders won't be pleased to see that the share price has had a very rough month, dropping 25% and undoing the prior period's positive performance. Instead of being rewarded, shareholders who have already held through the last twelve months are now sitting on a 38% share price drop.

After such a large drop in price, InfotmicLtd may look like a strong buying opportunity at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.1x, considering almost half of all companies in the Semiconductor industry in China have P/S ratios greater than 5.7x and even P/S higher than 9x aren't out of the ordinary. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so limited.

How InfotmicLtd Has Been Performing

InfotmicLtd has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing revenue at a solid pace. Perhaps the market is expecting this acceptable revenue performance to take a dive, which has kept the P/S suppressed. Those who are bullish on InfotmicLtd will be hoping that this isn't the case, so that they can pick up the stock at a lower valuation.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on InfotmicLtd's earnings, revenue and cash flow.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The Low P/S Ratio?

InfotmicLtd's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver very poor growth or even falling revenue, and importantly, perform much worse than the industry.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered a decent 11% gain to the company's revenues. While this performance is only fair, the company was still able to deliver immense revenue growth over the last three years. Accordingly, shareholders would have been over the moon with those medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Comparing that to the industry, which is only predicted to deliver 34% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is stronger based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.

With this in mind, we find it intriguing that InfotmicLtd's P/S isn't as high compared to that of its industry peers. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance has exceeded its limits and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.

What Does InfotmicLtd's P/S Mean For Investors?

Having almost fallen off a cliff, InfotmicLtd's share price has pulled its P/S way down as well. While the price-to-sales ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of revenue expectations.

Our examination of InfotmicLtd revealed its three-year revenue trends aren't boosting its P/S anywhere near as much as we would have predicted, given they look better than current industry expectations. Potential investors that are sceptical over continued revenue performance may be preventing the P/S ratio from matching previous strong performance. While recent revenue trends over the past medium-term suggest that the risk of a price decline is low, investors appear to perceive a likelihood of revenue fluctuations in the future.

And what about other risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 1 warning sign for InfotmicLtd you should know about.

Of course, profitable companies with a history of great earnings growth are generally safer bets. So you may wish to see this free collection of other companies that have reasonable P/E ratios and have grown earnings strongly.
